Therapy that takes UMR in Wisconsin
I accept UMR-administered plans. Check your employer’s network and benefits before we start.
An administrator for your employer’s plan
UMR is a third-party administrator, rather than an insurance company. It helps employers manage health benefits and process claims. With a self-funded plan, the employer funds the benefits, and the administrator handles the paperwork and services agreed with that employer.
That distinction explains why a general description of the company cannot tell you what a therapy session will cost. Your employer’s plan documents set the benefit. Someone working for a different employer may have the same administrator but different coverage, even when the cards look similar.
Note
Match the network on your card
The administrator is part of UnitedHealthcare, but the network listed on your own card is still the place to start. Employer groups can use different provider networks. A search in a general directory is not enough to confirm that a therapist participates in your particular plan.
Look for the network name on your ID card, or sign in to your member account for a search tied to your coverage. Before booking, call the number on the card and ask them to verify Amanda O’Connell, LPC for outpatient mental health. If a separate behavioral health number is listed, use that route.
Ask about the session you want
I offer video sessions across Wisconsin and walk & talk therapy in the Greenfield area. When checking benefits, describe the format you are considering rather than asking only whether therapy is covered. Ask about outpatient psychotherapy with a Licensed Professional Counselor, including any requirements for that setting.
A medical network listing does not answer every question about mental health services. Ask member services to identify the right behavioral health contact, confirm my network status, and explain any referral or prior authorisation requirements that apply to your sessions.
Keep the answer tied to your current coverage
Have your member ID and group number available during the call so the representative can check the correct employer plan. Ask what you would owe after any deductible, and keep the call reference with the answer. Those details are more useful than a cost someone with another employer was quoted.
If your employer changes plans or sends you a new card, check again before using the old benefit information. If you are having trouble confirming coverage, reach out and we can discuss what still needs checking before your first appointment.
What I’d ask them
- Which provider network applies to my outpatient mental health benefit?
- Is Amanda O’Connell, LPC in network under my employer’s specific plan?
- What would I owe for outpatient psychotherapy, and does my deductible apply first?
- What coverage and requirements apply to video sessions or walk & talk therapy?
- Do I need a referral or prior authorisation before starting?
Before you call me
How to check your own benefit
I can tell you I am in network. Only your plan can tell you what that means for your wallet, because the answer is set by your specific coverage rather than by the insurer as a whole.
-
Look at the back of your card
The member services number is there. If there is a separate behavioral health or mental health line, use that one instead.
-
Ask about your benefit
Ask which network applies to outpatient mental health, and have them check my participation under your specific employer plan.
-
Write down what they tell you
Ask for a reference number for the call.
I’m licensed in Wisconsin only, so you need to be physically located in Wisconsin at the time of your session, whatever plan you carry.
Would rather not use insurance? Sessions are $125, and I keep a limited number of reduced-fee spots. More about fees
